Market Must-Haves

The 2023 Market Season is looking much different in terms of display for Rock Paper Sisters. After a season of the standard tables and tablecloths, I just couldn’t handle one more season of it. This isn’t to say that there is anything wrong with that, but I have always envisioned a set-up that represented more of a stationery/gift-shop store, so some big changes needed to be made. Below is a complete breakdown of the items that I used to make this happen:

  1. IKEA Shelves

The IKEA shelves that I chose are the Hejne shelves. You can purchase these in a variety of different pre-determined builds; however, I just purchased the posts, shelves and X braces all separately. I used the 18” deep shelves to have enough room to lay items flat or stand them up. The X brace for the back is a MUST. I thought I might be able to et by without it, but the stability that it created is crucial - as these shelves are VERY light. Speaking of, lots of people ask how I transported them. I drive a minivan (#momlife) and was able to fit two of them in fully assembled. They are very light to carry, so that was great! For the third one, it did need to be taken apart to fit in the van, but it is very easy to assemble with just 16 screws and an Alan wrench!

  2. Amazon Lamps

These Amazon lamps were a huge hit! Everyone asked me where they were from - most people thinking they were Restoration Hardware. When I told them they were about $30 each on Amazon it was a jaw-dropper! We simply installed them the way that you would if you were mounting them onto a wall. We attached the wall plate to the top of the shelf and I transported the sconces disassembled. When it was time to put them on, I simply put the mount screws through the scone holes and used the screw caps to fasten it on. Then I screwed in the lightbulbs and ran the clear plugs to the extension cord: LET THERE BE LIGHT! This was a great addition for the barn setting where things could be somewhat dark at times.

  3. IKEA Checkout Station

For the checkout station I wanted something that was light and easy to transport that allowed me to sit, as there can be long pauses in between shopping customers. For this I wanted to stick with the same pine look as the Hejne shelves so I chose the Rast nightstand from IKEA. I assembled everything to instruction except for the drawers and the backside. Basically leaving it two sides and a top. I measured out one side of the nightstand and went to Home Depot for a piece of pine wood that matched and fit the space. I sanded it down and had TAP Laser Designs cut and attach my logo. On the inside of the checkout stand I mounted the sign with some L brackets. Also using L brackets, I took one of the pieces included to build a drawer and made a shelf! The perfect spot to hide all my snacks and drinks!

  4. IKEA Wheelie Cart

This little wheelie cart has been around for a long time! I used it in all three of my boys nurseries (starting almost nine years ago), and recently moved it down to my office. I used this as part of my checkout station, as well. The bamboo top piece was great for customers to sit all of their items for checkout while the bottom tiers all held supplies for packaging (mini boxes, packaging wrap, bags, business cards, etc.). It was such a fun addition to the booth - and it got so many compliments, people kept trying to buy it!
