Christmas card season is here and we wanted to share just a few ways that you can make your Christmas cards stand out in the mail this season. In a year where mailboxes may not have always carried the best of news, let’s fill them with some joy!

PRETTY STAMPS

Let’s start with stamps, because they are the most essential part of sending your cards in the first place. We get asked often where we get all of our pretty stamps, so we will share our secret here! Most of the stamps that we use actually come from the USPS. While your local post office or grocery store may only carry the American Flag Forever stamp, take a look at the different stamps available on their website that they might not carry at your local locations.

Next, vintage stamps are one of our favorite ways to dress up an envelope, but be advised that they are more expensive than a regular stamp, often times 2-3 times more expensive than their face value. We love to get our stamps on Etsy from this shop, but there are lots of other sellers on Etsy that offer great varieties and bundles.

HAND LETTERING

There are a variety of hand lettering courses available online to help make your holiday envelopes pop. If you are looking for a fun and healthy distraction from social media and the news, consider downloading a hand lettering class or buying a book to learn new and fun styles for lettering. We recommend checking out All She Write Notes for some fun and bouncy letters or Laura Hooper Calligraphy for a more traditional style. There are many additional courses online that you can view, as well.

WAX SEALS

Another great addition to your envelope is the wax seal. You can take the time to melt the wax and stamp it with the traditional, handled stamp OR there are now pre-made seals with a peel-and-stick back - this is our preference. These can come in a variety of colors and designs, so take some time to find the one that is best for you. Additionally, you can find sealing wax and stamps at local craft stores or national chains, as well. However, the variety may not be as good. Also note that sending a wax sealed envelope through the mail can cost you additional postage. If you choose to use a wax seal, we recommend that you take it to your local post office to determine the correct postage.

COLORED ENVELOPES

We love a good colored envelope for invitations, greeting cards and more. There is something about opening that mailbox and seeing a colored envelope that signals to the brain that someone is thinking about you (there really is no scientific data on this that I’m aware of, but I am certain it is true!) Anyways, we recommend a colorful envelope for your card. You can always upgrade your envelope color on our Etsy page or we also love these that are available on Amazon.

I hope that you’ll consider some fun ways to make your holiday envelopes unique this season. If so, drop them in the comments below so that we can take a look!
